Histori

The introduction of sedans and horse-drawn carriages around the world was achieved in 1989. The earlier sedans and carts became more rare and easily collected especially the previous carts. Subaru has earned a reputation building vehicles that are considered "weird" while other Asian manufacturers bring more luxurious and conventional models to the market. Legacy is different and becomes a solid production that alters the reputation of Subaru. The Legacy emerged at the same time as the introduction of USA Lexus and Infiniti and five years after Acura, and it was interpreted by some as Subaru's attempt to participate in the emerging imported luxury car market. However, Subaru does not have a V6 or V8 engine. The Legacy is more automotive aerodynamics than previously built products, with soft edges and a more coherent appearance. This sedan has a break in the beltline where it drops from the windshield to the front door glass, and then juts from the back door glass to the rear window, and the beltline is interrupted by transitioning to the rear window on the train. Beltline treatment was used again on SVX when it was introduced in 1992.

Legacy broke with many of Subaru's traditions, such as no longer putting a spare tire in the engine compartment, behind the engine and on top of the transmission, tradition begins with the Subaru 1000 1966, a method also used in CitroÃÆ'¡n GS. Legacy is also a second Subaru that uses wheels with five wheel nuts instead of four to better cope with the increase in horsepower and torque from the powertrain. The Legacy is an all-new model, and is placed at the top in the Subaru model range, joining Leone, Subaru XT coupe, Subaru Justy sub-compact, and Subaru Rex and Subaru Sambar kei cars in Japan.

Subaru's badge used since the introduction of 360 has been modified, with a more conventional and stylish appearance, compared to the version used on previous vehicles.

The Legacy begins with a four-door sedan or five-door wagon body style with FWD and an optional full-time AWD package, and is introduced in the United States, England, Germany, the Benelux region of Northern Europe, Argentina, Chile, Japan, Australia [where it is called Liberty] and New Zealand. This car is built with many luxurious and technological advancements usually found in more expensive vehicles as standard equipment, such as power windows, central locking, fuel injection, air conditioning, sensitive vehicle speed, variable effort, power assist rack-and-pinion steering, alloy wheels, 4-wheel independent suspension (MacPherson struts in front and Chapman struts for the rear) with both negative scrub and anti-dive and squat geometry, front and rear anti-shake bars, and all wheel disc brakes. An optional item that does not make vehicles too expensive is ABS four channels, licensed from Bosch and air suspension control altitudes, which lowers vehicles at speeds above 50 mph (80 km/h), and also allows the driver to increase ground clearance of the vehicle for the condition off-road. In many markets, only four-wheel-drive models are sold, or a very limited range of front-wheel-drives.

In vehicles equipped with central power lock, this feature is activated from the inside of the locking of the door locks only, by pressing the rocker button to lock or unlock all doors. There is no label on any of the doors that indicates the function of the door lock is electrical. Other doors can be locked or unlocked individually by pressing the rocker door lock button, but will not lock or unlock any other doors. Lock the outer door lock can unlock the driver's door just by turning the partial lock, or with the complete turn to the left to unlock all doors.

Japanese model

When Legacy was first introduced February 1, 1989 in Japan, the Legacy came at the following trim levels: 220Ã, PS (162Ã,kW) DOHC 2.0-liter turbocharged "RS" with 5-speed manual transmission only, followed by "VZ" sedan and wagon and the "TZ" sedan and wagon with a 150HPS (110Ã, kW) DOHC 2.0 liter engine. The smaller 1.8-liter SOHC engine 102 PS (75 kW) 1.8 liter is used for the "Vi" sedan and the cart with only FWD, "Ti" sedan and wagon, "Mi" and entry level "Ei" sedans and carriages. Fuel efficiency for 2.0-liter engines (non-turbo, 4WD manual transmission) is 10.8 km/L (31 mpg -a little 25 mpg -US ) based on emissions test The Japanese government uses 10 different standard scenario modes, and 18 km/L (51 mpg -imp ; 42 mpg -US ) at a speed consistently maintained at 60 km/hour (37.3 mph), based on figures listed in the Japanese sales brochure.

All cars are available for Japan is an extended roof version, referred to as "Touring Wagon", and air suspension, called "EP-S" (electronic pneumatic suspension), available only in AWD equipped VZ wagon with automatic transmission. In 1990, the 200HP (147WW) DOHC 2.0-liter turbocharged Legacy "GT" sedan/extended roof wagon was introduced, with 4-speed computer-controlled automatic transmission only on the GT sedan and automatic or manual transmission option on the wagon, as well as a turbocharged sedan "RS type R "which is slightly more affordable. GT sedan/wagon, RS, and RS type R come with 15-inch alloy wheels and 205/60R15 tires, single-piston front and rear piston brake calipers, and sport-tuned suspension over standard 14-inch wheel wheel wheels for model others offered. The plastic wheel cover is not offered at entry level "Ei" sedan or wagon, and 13 inch wheels are painted silver instead of black.

Sedans and "Ti Type S" wagons, introduced in 1991, are offered with items available on the more expensive VZ and TZ but with smaller 1.8 engines. The reason is that it allows Japanese buyers to buy a higher model and avoid the higher cost of Japan's annual road tax, where the 2.0 liter engine has a higher tax amount. AWD settings, called "Active Torque Split" in the Japanese language brochure, are standard on GT and RS Japan, optionally at other trim levels with manual or automatic transmissions. The partial 4WD system is offered at lower levels of "Mi" and "Ei" sedans and carts with manual transmissions only, activated by a switch embedded on top of the gear lever. A glass moonroof was not available until 1990 on GT and VZ sedans and carts.

At the introduction of the Legacy, the upper-level VZ sedan interior is initially available in blue, gray or a special color combination of pearl white exterior paint with dark red coating and brown interior plastic, with sedans and other carts offering a choice of interior blue colors or Abu- ash. The black-painted VZ carts come with a gray two-color paint scheme on the underside of the vehicle, and the front and rear bumpers cover under the bumper rubbing strip, which is then used when Outback is introduced to the Second Generation. The blue interior is offered on vehicles with only blue exterior paint. When the 1990 model arrives, however, the choice of interior color is reduced to gray for the entire product line, with various types of upholstery options, including a choice of velor, moquette, or upholstery upholstery based on slim levels. Leather is optional on GT sedans and carts only. A four spoke, black leather covered steering wheel MOMO also comes with a spec-wagon GT sedan and a RS sedan, and is affixed with six allen head screws to an adapter hub that incorporates a cruise control activation switch. This arrangement allows for the exchange of other aftermarket steering wheels using a six-screw mounting pattern to satisfy personal tastes. The black leather steering wheel is accompanied by a matching black leather gear, middle armrest cover, and parking brake handle. The top half of the dashboard in RS 1990 is available in optional blue color, with the rest of the dashboard and interior just grayed out. RS and RS R type black interior color with black upholstery with matching door panels and side bolts extended in the front seat, covered with unique insert upholstery pattern for RS and RS type R. Japanese models have been known to be exported to countries with right driving requirements, such as England, India, Australia and New Zealand.

The following is printed, in English, on the cover of the 1989 Japanese Heritage brochure, as Subaru is proud of their new car:

International model

European, British and Australian versions are offered with three trim levels; The upscale GX, the more affordable LX in Australia is called GL in Europe and the UK, and the very basic DL in most parts of Europe, with AWD offered as an option on GX, LX, and GL. In Europe and the UK, GL and DL comes with a 1.8 liter engine and the GX comes with a larger 2.2 liter engine. For the 1990 model year, the UK specification. 1.8 GL is equipped with carburettor and rear drum brakes but later upgraded to a single point fuel injection for the 1991 model. DL is not available in the UK or Australia. The UK is also given a choice of vehicles equipped with Catalytic Converter which limits the use of fuel only to unleaded fuels. Australians can choose between a 2.2-liter SOHC without a turbo on a 2.0-liter GX and LX or DOHC with a turbo on the RS. In 1992, Australians were offered a turbo Liberty RS as an extended sedan or roof with a manual transmission only. When the Japanese-spec turbo is offered in Europe and Australia, black leather covered MOMO steering wheel is also offered. The steering wheel is affixed with six allen head screws to an adapter hub that incorporates a cruise control activation switch, if cruise control is installed. This arrangement allows for the exchange of other aftermarket steering wheels using a six-screw mounting pattern to satisfy personal tastes. The black leather steering wheel is accompanied by a matching black leather gear, middle armrest cover, and parking brake handle. The main difference from the Japanese MOMO steering wheel and the European and Australian versions is the Japanese version of the four spoke.

The European, British and Australian versions come with two choices of blue or gray interior colors. Choice of upholstery fabrics from woolen, tricot or specialty textiles for individual trim levels; tweed for GX, tricot for GL and textiles for DL. GL UK is offered with tricot or textile seats based on selected exterior paint colors. The velor coating is offered not tweed on GX Australia. European and Australian versions are also available in limited-edition premiums, called GX Gala in Europe, and GX Heritage in Australia offers gray leather on the Euro-spec sedan and expanded wagons, and only on sedans for Australian spec. Inheritance of Freedom. DL Europe, which is very similar to Ei model Japan specification, very basic; items not offered are tachometers, power windows and central locking, radio, 60:40 folding rear seats on the sedan, and AWD is not available on the DL. The Euro-spec DL also does not have a plastic wheel cover, and is instead identical to the Japanese Ei specification, with silver painted steel wheels and plastic lug plastic nuts cover. The European DL also has no paint on the front or back bumpers, and remains in their natural black plastic state.

DL spec Latin America also does not have a plastic wheel cover, sold with silver painted steel wheels and plastic lug plastic nuts cover. Also do not have paint on the front or rear bumpers, and remain in their natural black plastic state; engines offered on basic DLs and some GL are carburetor versions of the EJ18, which come with Hitachi carburetors and Mitsubishi distributors, from the factory. The Latin American market has a manual transmission speed of 5 double range, as an optional equipment.

The European, British, and Australian carriages are also available with two-man manual transmission, not offered in the US or Japan (Although seven dual Inheritance wagons are imported into the United States as a showroom model, before the official Legacy sale begins). In Germany, the extended rooftop trains are called Super Stations and are available with 2.2 or 1.8-liter engines, the ABS brakes are only available on German vehicles with 2.2 liter engines, and the standard cart is called the Legacy Station with a 1.8 liter engine only. Subarus was not officially sold in France until February 1992. The fuel efficiency rating for European models (2.2L, non-turbo, 4WD and manual transmission) is 7.5Ã, L/100Ã, km (38 mpg sub> 31 mpg -US ) at 90 km/h (55.9 mph), 9.4 L/100 km (30 mpg -imp , 25 mpg < sub> -US ) at 120 km/h (74.6 mph), and 13.1 L/100 km (21.6 mpg -imp ; 18.0 mpg -US ) at city speed, according to the 1991 European sales leaflet.

The USA Legacy is introduced with three trim levels: Standard, "L," and "LS." In 1991, the Standard was removed and "LSi" was introduced as "LS" with gray leather interior on the sedan only, similar to "Gala" and "Heritage" international approach. The US-spec standard is very similar to the Euro-spec DL and the Japanese Ei specifications, with very rare equipment levels. The 1990 model can be distinguished from the 1991 model with a strip rub color covering the vehicle; 1990 color is gray and 1991 color is black. Also, the hook color of the automatic front shoulder hook is the interior color for 1990 and black for 1991 and subsequent years. For MY 1991, the "L" trim level is available with Value Plus option package, which includes anti-lock brakes, power windows, central locking, air conditioning, cruise control, and 80W stereo.

The 2.2 turbo, called "Sport Sedan", was also introduced to the United States in 1991. US-spec 1991-1992 Sport Sedan has Alcantara interior in gray and is not available in Japan, Europe or Australia. The 1993-94 Touring Wagons and Sports Sedans received plastic interior and black fabric.

In 1992, "LSi" was introduced on the cart, in addition to the newly introduced Touring Wagon with turbocharged "LE". The fuel efficiency for the 2.2 liter engine (non-turbo, 4WD manual transmission) is 20 mpg -US (12Ã, L/100Ã, km; 24 mpg -imp ) city and 27 mpg -US (8.7 L/100 km; 32 mpg -imp ) at highway speeds, based on figures stated in the American sales brochure 1991. Version USA offers a choice of three interior colors adding a selection of light brown to the list. Tricot seat options for base level "L" and velor for uplevel "LS". The skin is only available in all international versions of Subaru in gray. Air suspension height controls are only available on wagons with automatic transmissions, and non-turbocharged engines in all international markets. No sedans are manufactured by Subaru with air suspension height control, unlike the Honda Accord and Honda Vigor top-level sedans and hatchbacks. AWD is the only standard on US Sport Sedan, Touring Wagon and 1994 LSI sedan and cart, and optional on all other USA trim levels. Additional roof wagons are not available in Legacy USA (except for the 1994 GT Legacy legacy), until Outback is introduced.

Many routes of the rural United States Postal Service used specifically ordered right hand drive Legacys to send mail. These carts were available from 1990 to 1999 and were very little different from the personal use of Legacy trim "L" levels.

In addition to the GT, which is offered with an elevated roof, but without a turbo, the Ti Outdoor Wagon, the Mi Alpine Sport Wagon, the GX 2.2L Sun Sport Wagon is a special 1994 level trim available in the US. Each has unique options, and may be sold only in certain regions of the U.S. See http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_archive.html for a list.

The trim levels on the USA version can easily be identified with the color of the outside door handle. The basic trim level can be identified with the chrome door handle, while the uplevel has painted the door handle matching the exterior color. All Japanese models have chrome door handles and European and Australian versions all have painted door handles. The USA door handle tradition continues until the 2010 model year on the fifth generation Legacy platform, with Subaru using black instead of chrome plastics beginning with the 1994 Legacy lower trim levels. MY 1992 saw the Japanese-spec door handle turned into a European version painted handle, a feature they still use on current models.

Specifications

Chassis type

The first generation Legacy model code is decoded with the first letter "B" representing the Legacy model. The second letter is C (sedan), J (flat roof wagon), and F (high roof wagon). The third character represents the engine and drivetrain: 2 (1.8-liter 2WD), 3 (1.8-liter 4WD), 4 (2.0-liter 2WD), 5 (2.0-liter 4WD), 6 (2.2-liter 2WD), 7 -Liter 4WD), A (2.0-liter 4WD with air suspension), and B (2.2-liter 4WD with air suspension).

Transmission

The latest computer-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission, called 4EAT in both FWD and AWD guises, uses a locking torque converter, and does not use overdrive features. Transmission has a feature where it can be instructed to ignore 1st gear from a standing stop to help drive on traction-limited situations, such as ice and snow. The system is activated by pressing the button on the gear selector marked "Manual" and moving the gearshift from position "D" to "3". The yellow indicator light marked "Manual" is also illuminated at the bottom center of the instrument cluster when the system is ready for use. The car will then start in 2nd gear, and not 1, then when the car that gets the speed will shift to 3, lock the 4th gear. The transmission computer also splits the torque that is sent 50:50 between the front and rear wheels. After the car stops, the transmission will start back on 2nd instead of 1st until the system is released with the "Manual" or upshifting button to 4th.

Automatic transmission also has over-rev engine protection by shifting the transmission to the next available gear after 6500 rpm is reached, even if the gear selector is in low gear position. Computers that monitor and control automatic transmission operations and their status are combined with fuel injection management computers, as well as cruise controls and computer anti-lock brakes, if so. Information is shared so that the vehicle operates as efficiently as possible. Computers that monitor a variety of conditions also have the ability to store the possibility of malfunctions, and help qualified mechanics in diagnosis and possible repair of various systems.

Automatic transmissions used in AWD-equipped vehicles will typically send 90% of engine torque to the front wheels and 10% to the rear wheels, using a multi-plate, computer-controlled, continuous, and varying multi-plate transfer clutch. When the front wheel begins to lose the handle, the transmission automatically sends the available torque to the rear wheels, up to 50:50 divided between the front and rear wheels until the grip is rebuilt on the front wheels, without notifying the driver or passenger. the torque is being diverted. When speeding or driving uphill, the weight of the vehicle shifts backward, reduces front wheel traction, causing the transmission to automatically send torque to the rear wheels to compensate. When the brakes or driving down, the weight of the vehicle shifts towards the front, reducing the rear wheel traction. Transmission re-compensates by sending torque to the front wheels for steering control and better braking performance. If automatically placed in Reverse gear or "1", the transmission divides 50:50 of torque to the front and rear wheels. Differential rear limited slip is standard on 1991 USA Sport Sedan (Legacy Turbo). However it is only available as an add on for 92-94 USA Turbo.

Automatic transmission also has the ability to change the shift points, and holds the teeth longer when the engine operates at a higher RPM. This is achieved by pressing the accelerator pedal quickly, causing the indicator lights marked "Power" in the lower center of the instrument cluster to illuminate. The European and Australian versions are equipped with a centered console replacing the switch labeled "AT Econo" which instructs the computer to take advantage of "Power" mode, and remains so until the switch is reset to "Econo" mode. "Power" mode is also available for engine braking, causing transmission to 500 rpm downshift earlier than "normal" mode. For 1991, the "Manual" button on the gear shift was replaced with an "Econo" button on the gearshift, and the buttons installed in the console were changed from "AT Econo" to "Manual", so the transmission was always in "Econo" mode until the switch installed gearshift released. Unlike the US and Japanese versions, which switch to "Power" mode only when the accelerator is pushed quickly, the "Power" mode in European and Australian versions is activated either by the console or the gearshift switch.

Manual transmission using a limited sliding type differential. The secondary shaft in hollow transmission with pinion shaft extends through it to the differential center. This provides a 50:50 torque balance under acceleration and deceleration to the point of the wheel slip, so VLSD begins to send more torque to the wheels with more traction. The non-turbo model also includes Hill Holder that allows the car to keep stopping on a climb by simply pressing the clutch pedal instead of the clutch and brake pedal.

Machine

The EJ series flat-4 aluminum alloy engine, specially developed for Legacy, is the most powerful engine Subaru has built to date, and the engine is currently offered in many configurations. In an effort to ensure durability and long life, Subaru chose to use five major crankshaft bearings. The engine features a single or double overhead camshaft and pent-roof architecture, crosslinked crossover chamber. Ignition uses ignition without distributor, using coils of computer-controlled coils and spark plug wires to supply electrical charges. The last version of this machine uses a coil package that is mounted directly above the spark plug. Problems detected by computer on-board cars are marked by a "check engine" light, alerting the driver that maintenance is needed immediately. The air-fuel mixture is monitored by a mass airflow sensor and the emissions are controlled by an oxygen sensor mounted in front of the catalytic converter. It also uses a reverse engine cooling, which means the cold water from the radiator enters the cylinder head first and then exits through the top of the engine block back to the top of the radiator. The water flow is controlled by a thermostat located next to the water pump under the machine. Installing a thermostat in this position allows it to more accurately control the water temperature when entering the engine from the cylinder head first, so it is better to prevent the occurrence of thermal shock.

When it debuted in the United States, it was introduced with a somewhat larger 135 bhp SOHC 2.2 liter (101-kW; 137 PS) engine which is also used for European, British and Australian versions over the DOHC 2.0 liter Japanese version of the market. The delivery of 2.0 liter and 2.2 liter fuel engines is managed by a sequential multiport fuel injection called MPFI, and the 1.8 liter engine uses a single-injector fuel injection system called SPFI. The Japanese use a smaller engine because of the Japanese vehicle size law, which determines the taxes to be paid based on the car's dimensions and engine displacement. However, the Japanese domestic market engine (JDM) is stronger, even without turbo. Engine DODM JDM DOHC 2.0 liter 150 PS (110 kW) non turbocharged engine has a dual stage intake manifold where at approximately 3200-3500 engine RPMs, four individual valves will allow additional airflow to the engine from the secondary manifold mounted and located below the primary intake manifold.

DOHC 2.0-liter turbocharged 162-kW (220Ã, PS; 217Ã, hp) engine The EJ20G, which is a valuable machine worldwide among Subaru fans, was first introduced in Legacy and later used on the Impreza WRX when it was introduced in 1993 In Europe, the Turbo RS Legacy is sometimes referred to as the "Lunacy" Turbo. Australia offered a Japanese RS turbo sedan with DOHC 2.0-liter engine in 1991, and Europe and England the same engine in 1992, only manual transmission. The Japanese specification model, emissions equipment, is sold in New Zealand with power slightly higher than 164 kW (223 PS) at 6000 rpm. The DOHC 2.0-liter turbo also comes with a water-cooled intercooler.

The USA SOHC EJ22T 2.2-liter 163Ã, bhp (122Ã, kW, 165Ã, PS) turbo was not offered a water-cooled intercooler when it was introduced to them in 1991. US turbocharged engines are available with manual or automatic transmissions. The turbocharged engines were initially offered internationally in sedans only, with Japanese buyers able to choose between sedans or GT carts starting in 1990. The 2.2 turbo engine, the "EJ22T" code, is only available in the United States. It is loosely based on typically-aspirated EJ22E/NA used in non-turbo models, but has short block closed deck machines, coated pistons (but not forged) w/lower compression ratios, different cylinder heads to support oil and requirement cooling from the turbo, among other specific turbo details.

Subaru did not sell Turbo Legacy in the United States from 1995 to 2004. This is because Subaru has stepped up a single turbo used in Legacy with twin turbo engines starting with the Second Generation and continued with the Third Generation. Twin turbo configurations are not compatible with the left-hand drive because the turbo on the left side bothers the master's brake cylinder and steering relationship, among other things. New in 1994 Legacy GT, built in the Indiana plant, US uses the same EJ22E engine as other non-turbo models. It is not equivalent to the GT model sold on other continents with the turbocharged EJ20G engine.

Security

In the United States, the Legacy is introduced with an automatic safety belt because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations of the United States (NHTSA) state that all cars manufactured from 1 April 1989 must be equipped with a passive front passenger control system that will protect the front. occupants of a frontal impact without residents' participation. This regulation is enforced to force manufacturers to install airbags in their vehicles. In 1991, Subaru added airbags on the driver's side only (as an option) for the 1992 model that did not meet US regulations. The 1993 and 1994 models all have standard driver airbags. If the vehicle has a double air bag, a passive safety belt system can be removed, which Subaru did in 1994, with the Second Generation. The monocoque body integrates a steel safety enclosure that surrounds the passenger compartment, with engine parts and folded rods for additional passenger protection. Steel beams are added inside the front and rear doors to protect passengers from side collisions. To improve the rigidity of front and rear bumpers, styrofoam inserts are added, which are used on vehicles sold only in North America.

Subaru confirms the entry of their AWD technology is a security feature, enabling the driver to avoid possible unsafe conditions by allowing the vehicle to maintain contact with the road and avoid the possibility of accidents, even during bad weather [1]. In vehicles equipped with ABS and AWD, if the ABS system is activated for emergency braking, the ABS computer is connected to a transmission computer, instructing the AWD to send power to all wheels while ABS stops the vehicle so the wheels maintain contact with the road. All turbocharged vehicles, both sedans and wagons, regardless of the country where the vehicle is sold are fitted with ABS and rear ventilation disc brakes as standard equipment.

The Japanese vehicle has a rear lap belt only on the lower trim and 3-point outboard position of the lap and a shoulder belt with the rear center belt position on all vehicles with a 2.0-liter engine. The pre-tensioner seat belt with an Emergency Locking Retractor (called E.L.R.) is standard equipment in Japanese vehicles with VZ trim packages and all vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines.

The Canadian Legacy spec is not equipped with an automatic seat belt because the objection from the Government of Canada and the current USA owner has been known to turn the auto seat belt into the Canadian version when the mechanism fails to pull back. Replacing a failing auto seat belt is currently very expensive because the current Subaru price for parts is failing.

All legacy carriages sold in Europe come with rear seat headrests and 3-point outboard position on laps and belts as standard equipment, while rear headrests are available in top trims elsewhere. All international Legacy, except the United States, has an adjustable frontal seat belt.

Tools

Some affordable luxury items include revealing and revealing the driver's power window side, electric slope and sliding moonroof with blind ventilation, steering slope with memory feature allowing spring steering column to "jump" and out of the way, high-strength mirrors, headrests that can arranged 4-way, velor coating, and luxurious carpet that has been refined on the LS wagon sedan and wagon US $ 1990, adding leather-covered steering, handshift and parking brake in 1991. Also in 1991, automatic digital climate control, which was removed in the year 1992, and in-dash CD player, among others added to the list of US options. Some exterior paint options come with pearlescent appearance, only offered in the US.

Some manufacturers install DIN double (180 x 100 mm panel) 80 watt stereo with integrated equalizer and cassette player, sourced from Clarion and Panasonic, equipped with 3.5mm auxiliary port on the front of the stereo, allowing current digital music device to play. The Japanese version of this factory-mounted stereo is rated 100W and the volume control buttons are located on the right side of the stereo and the frequency screen is on the left. The stereo unit used for the US and Australia has a volume control on the left and a frequency display on the right. The in-dash CD player, sourced from Clarion, is available in US, Japanese and Australian sedans and wagons as an additional cost option, and is easy to install on multiple DIN stereos. In 1994, Subaru provided an 80 watt subwoofer/amplifier located beneath the front passenger seat in the US, and the tweeter side mirror speakers are available as an accessory installed by USA dealers with limited availability. The standard DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) stereo plant with 40 watt installed in European vehicles is sourced from Philips or Fujitsu Ten.

The European and British versions are installed with main ring lights and rear fog lights, so other drivers can see them in bad weather and at night. The European model also receives halogen-glass lamps that can have projected adjustable light distances from electrical switch mounted on the dashboard, and also receive sensitive speed, variable effort propulsion, and both standard-installed items. Australia's specs and wagon specs are equipped with rear fog lights, but not the main light washers. Britons and Europeans can also install a front bumper bumper and an 8 mm (0.31 inch) thick steel tub which extends from the bottom edge of the front bumper to the front suspension. Europeans can not get cupholder in-dash which is located in a small space under HVAC control and above stereo, found in Australia, USA and Japan model. In that location it is not a clock, and a button to distribute an electric radio antenna, if so. Clock integrated with international OEM stereo.

The Japanese version offers an electric folding mirror, an 8-way power drivers seat with recline power for rear ends, and an infrared keyless remote entry integrated into the ignition key. GT and VZ have features where the driver's door can be unlocked without the use of a lock or remote, using a programmable driver security code that is inserted by pulling the exterior door handle several times, according to the 4-digit security code found in its memory. This feature is only installed on vehicles with infrared remote keyless. Vehicles equipped with an infrared lockless remote feature can be identified by having a dark plastic receiver patch mounted on the driver's door handle, located just above the key entry keyhole. Transmitters installed in the ignition are directed at this receiver block on the door handle.

The Japanese can also choose from two stereo and speaker packages installed at the plant from Alpine and Kenwood with an integrated CD player, rear vacuum behind the sedan as well as a wheelbarrow, spring-loaded ashtray, (GT, RS, VZ, and VZ, only wagons high-controlled electrostatic air purifiers mounted behind rear seats on parcel shelves for sedans and interior air mixes/overhead interior lights for carts, automatic climate control with digital temperature display, vehicle door sensitivity power speed door, halogen fog lamp both with clear or yellow lenses, and the ability to turn off sensitive speed, variable power effort steering on turbo RS sedan. All vehicles manufactured for sale in Japan with power windows have a feature in which the power window will still operate for 30 seconds after removing the ignition.

1991 facelift and other changes

A small facelift to the front end came in 1991 for the 1992 model, revising the grille, front fenders, hood and headlights to give an appearance similar to the introduction of the Subaru SVX luxury GT coupe, along with interior and exterior color changes. For MY 1994, wagons with the United States specifications are available with a small trim package, called Alpine Sport and Sun Sport, which are essentially "L" trains with optional equipment, such as heated front seats, added as "Value Option Group" And also comes with a graphic showing the package on the outside of the vehicle.LSi wheels with American specifications are available with brownish leather interior, with matching leather on the steering wheel, gear selector, central armrest, interior door panel and parking brake handle. red plastic, in both sedan and wagon, continues but the word "Subaru" is exchanged for the word "Legacy." Also, the Subaru star logo is no longer used on the back of the sedan or cart.

The Japanese model saw the introduction of the S2 GT sedan, which added BBS rear wheel and rear spoiler as standard equipment, the VZ type R, and the Brighton 220, which has a lot of luxury equipment from the VZ trim level and the 2.2 SOHC Engine installed only in the Touring Wagon. The Japanese TZ spec was replaced by the Brighton trim name. In August 1992, "Legacy Touring Wagon STi" was released and limited to 200 units. A Nardi three spoke black leather steering wheel mounted with the "STI" logo on the center horn button. The only major upgrades mentioned are upgraded ECU fuel injection, and increase the turbocharger pressure from standard 450 mmHg to 650 mmHg, which is used on "RS" sedans and the same engine torque output, with automatic transmission only. The Japanese version of 1989-1991 incorporated a side repeater to the side of the front-end bend lens with a prominent side repeater of the lens so it could be seen laterally, then adopted the European configuration in 1992.

The European and Australian heritage of 1989-1994 has a side repeater lens mounted on the front fender just behind the front wheels, with front turning lights mounted next to the headlights. Beginning with the 1992 facelift, European models sold in Germany are available in "Hubertus 2" trim level on 1.8 L carts only; it is offered in green with a manual transmission, the all-wheel drive is standard equipment with dual range transmission, and also comes with a painted brush guard that matches the body color that protects the front grille and headlights, wrapping to protect the side of the turning mark. It also comes with a customized high air suspension, allowing the vehicle to travel off-road. The name Hubertus is used by the German hunting knife manufacturer and the name Hubertus is the patron saint of the hunter.

The front turn signal is moved from under the bumper in the United States version to their new location next to the headlights, as in the Japanese, Australian and European versions. Side repeater lenses are also added to the USA version, but they are used as side-marking lights and not rotation signal repeater.

In the US, parking lights were installed next to the headlights for MY 1990-1991 in a special angle lens, then combined with a front-turn signal from 1992 to the current model. Parking lights for European, Australian and Japanese versions are incorporated inside the headlamps, on the outer edges. All international versions of Legacy use a dedicated parking light switch installed over the steering column up to the 2010 model year.

The Facelifted Legacy appeared for the 1992 model only in Japan and Australia because the second generation was introduced in 1993, and it was also sold as Isuzu Aska for MY 1992.

Motorports

Just before the introduction of the Legacy to the United States, three turbo Japanese turbo-RS turbo were delivered to the FIA test track in Phoenix, Arizona, where they were pushed at an average speed of 223.4 km/h (138.8 mph) for nearly 19 days , collecting 100,000 kilometers (62,000 mi) at the time, setting a new world record for ground speed resistance, stopping only for fuel and routine service. [2]

On another occasion, two AWD Legacy cars finished 1 and 2nd place at the 1990 Alcan Winter Rally which covered 6,300 miles (10,100 km) from Seattle, Washington to the Arctic Circle and back and another wagon won the race again in 1992.

The Safari Rally event in 1990 saw two Subaru Legacys complete the race, with one car propelled by Patrik Njiru winning in the Group N category. During the 1990 Safari Rally, 58 vehicles entered but only 10 cars crossed the finish line. Group N is a designation that states that the car is almost identical to the showroom model. The only modifications made are necessary to meet the safety rules for the event. The other N Legacy Group completed the 1990 Acropolis Rally driven by Ian Duncan winning the top award and completing the race in eighth place.

Marketing

The USA Legacy is marketed as a luxury sedan and affordable wagons, without a premium price, similar to marketing efforts in Japan and Australia. The American, Japanese and Australian brochures actually define the vehicle as a luxury car [3]. The European and British heritage is marketed as a spacey, comfortable, yet durable vehicle for life in the country, with unexpected amenities.

The Legacy was introduced in the United States as a competitor to the Honda Accord, the Toyota Camry, the Nissan Stanza, and the Mazda 626, with the Legacy All Wheel Drive (AWD) offering as the key distinguishing feature of its competition. (Toyota initially offered AWD to the Camry in the US in a limited market, with the appointment of the Camry LE All-Trac, but discontinued the feature due to disappointing sales.) The only Japanese competitor that continues to offer all-wheel-drive in the same size Sedan is Mitsubishi in premium sport package Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, while Subaru offers all-wheel-drive as an option on all international trim levels. The Legacy sedan has dimensions and looks that are very similar to the current at Toyota Cressida. When Subaru decided to offer sedans and carts that pushed the limits of Japanese regulations on exterior dimensions and engine sizes, it seems they got inspiration from the early 1970s, Toyota Mark II and Nissan Maxima, adding their all-wheel drive to the option list as a security feature.

Honda Legend introduced in 1985, seems to be a significant inspiration, with rear-end rear effects very similar to the Legacy sedan, and the emergence of the word "Legacy" throughout the trunklid in a similar "Legend" mode. Much of the technical advancements included with Legend, along with the ergonomic desires of the various features found themselves emerging in Legacy. Items such as variable length input manifolds, multi-port sequential fuel injections, independent strut suspensions, attention to aerodynamic design standards, and the desire to own a car that is trying to redefine what a luxury car should be. Other items such as push-button heating and ventilation controls, lighted footwells for drivers, front-door storage pockets with optional puddle lighting for all doors, bronze glass to reduce glare and UV intrusions into vehicles, hydraulic mounts to reduce vibration machine. interfere in the vehicle, and many other items. Alloy wheels used in the LS sedan and old sedan in 1991 also has the same appearance with alloy wheels used in 1988 Legend LS as well. When Legacy appeared in Japan, its full name was "Legacy Touring Sedan". The legacy wagon in Japan has always been described as a "Legacy Touring Wagon" and not a station wagon or estate, a tradition that is still preserved. Legacy trim levels also match the trim packages offered in North America, using "L" for entry level and "LS" models on top trim products.

The Legacy was pitted against the vehicles offered at the time from Detroit, especially the "A" GM platform (Pontiac 6000, Buick Century, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and Chevrolet Celebrity) and GM L (Corsica/Beretta) platforms, Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz and Dodge Spirit/Plymouth Acclaim. Ford also offered AWD to Tempo in a limited market from 1986 to 1991, and GM installed AWD in the Pontiac 6000 STE, but experienced the same results as Toyota with the Camry All-Trac and canceled options soon after. At Pontiac, only the 6000 STE uplevel came with AWD as standard equipment from MY 1988-1990, with a V6 engine. GM's body "A" is also available as a wagon in Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Chevrolet, but everything is just FWD. In North America, starting with the 1993 model, the Legacy sedan and wagon saw the introduction of Mitsubishi Diamante as a luxury wagon with an optional all-wheel drive with a V6 engine.

In Europe, the Legacy competes with vehicles like the Toyota Carina, the Nissan Primera, the Opel Vectra, the Ford Sierra, the Volkswagen Passat, the Audi 80, the Alfa Romeo 75, and the Renault 21. Ford, Opel, VW, Audi, and Renault are available with optional AWD at that is, but Renault has AWD only on a turbocharged engine, and the cart is called Nevada/Savanna. Renault 21 was sold in North America briefly, called Eagle Medallion until 1989.

In Japan, the early 1990s saw an increase in the popularity of entry level luxury 4-door hardtop sedans, notably the Nissan Presea, the Toyota Carina ED, the Honda Vigor, the Mazda (Efini) MS-8 and Mitsubishi Emeraude all using frameless side windows in the compact wheelbase sedan. Some vehicles have a slender "B" pillar between the front and rear doors while others do not. Turbo turbo RS from Japan compete with Toyota Carina G Limited and Nissan Bluebird SSS-R. Legacy wagon appeared around the same time as Nissan Avenir.

Legacy was introduced with various trim levels, and was collected as a rare vehicle from 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 with a variety of different names (ie Brighton, Lancaster, VZ to name a few). 1993 Subaru Legacy Touring Bruce , named Bruce Willis, who lends himself to the Japanese market ad campaign and sings in the commercials, sings the song "A House of Gold" by Kenny Rankin. Willis also appeared in the Japanese market of Subaru Legacy sales brochures for both sedans and wagons, wearing a linen suit in both brochures. Singers Jennifer Lopez and Rod Stewart have filmed TV commercials for the Japanese market and actor Mel Gibson sings in an advertisement for the second generation with two songs "So Far Away" and "You Light Up My Life" by David Morgan. Rod sings ads for the second generation Legacy, singing "People Get Ready", "Tonight's the Night" and "Sailing". Jennifer also sings an ad for the third generation, with the song "Is not It Funny". Willis reappeared in an ad for a fourth-generation model to celebrate the production of Legacy 3 million in 2005.
