Plasma cutting is a process that cuts electrically conductive materials through accelerated jet heat. Process

The basic plasma cutting process involves making electricity from heated gas and electrically ionizing the plasma from the plasma cutter itself, through the workpiece to be cut, thus forming a complete electrical circuit back to the plasma cutter via a grounding clamp. This is done by compressed gases (oxygen, air, inert and others depending on the cut material) which is exhaled through a high-speed focused nozzle toward the workpiece. The electric arc ionises a portion of the gas, thus creating an electrically conductive plasma conduit. Plasma cutting is an effective way of cutting thin and thick materials together. Hand torches can usually cut thick steel plates up to 38 mm (1.5 inches), and a stronger computer-controlled torch can cut steel to a thickness of 150 mm (6 inches). History

Start method
