The conspiracy fuel tank (CFT) is an additional fuel tank that is fixed tightly to the aircraft profile extending the range or "time at the station" of the aircraft. CFT has a reduced aerodynamic penalty compared to an external drop tank, and does not significantly increase the radar sections of the aircraft. Another advantage of CFTs is that they do not occupy an arsenal of weapons such as drop tanks, allowing aircraft to carry full payloads.

Suitable fuel tanks have the disadvantage that, unlike the fall tank, they can not be discharged in flight, as they fall into the plane so that it can only be released on the ground. As a result, they will impose light and heavy penalties on the plane even when the tank is empty, without any benefit. They can also apply a small g-load limit, though not always an absolute problem, the CFT on the F-15E actually allows the same maneuverability without g-limits.

Example

Appropriate fuel tank

  • F-15C Eagle/F-15E Strike Eagle
F-15C enters service with CFT capability. Originally known as the FAST package (Fuel And Tactical Sensor), each unit brought in an additional 849 gallons of US (3,213.8% L) of fuel, while maintaining a cantpoint for four AIM-7F Sparrow missiles or bombs, some at QUICK package. They were first tested on the F-15B in 1974. All the ASS F-15Es export variants, and the Eagle Strike like the Israeli and Singapore models, are equipped with CFT under the wings beyond the engine intake and require modifications to fly without them. Package CEPAT was originally intended to bring infrared navigation and targeting sensor systems (thus "Fuel And Sensor"); However, the F-15 just started carrying the LANTIRN pod for ground attack missions instead.
  • F-16C/D Block 50/52, F-16E/F Block 60 and F-16I Sufa
Exports of aircraft to Greece, Chile, Israel, Poland, Pakistan, Turkey, Singapore, Morocco, Egypt and UAE were looted for the transport of two CFTs mounted on planes near the wing roots. Each is capable of holding 450 US gallons (1,703.4 L)
  • Dassault Rafale
Two 1,150 liters (300Ã, USÃ, gal) CFT was first tested by Dassault in April 2001.
  • Eurofighter Typhoon
The wind tunnel is tested by BAE, two CFTs with a capacity of 1,500 liters (400Ã, USÃ, gal).
  • AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo
The F-CK-1D prototype ("Brave Hawk") and single-seater F-CK-1C prototype equipped with the new CFT. The Indigenous Defense Fighter II prototype "Goshawk" has CFT over-wing.
  • Advanced Super Hornet
Conformal fuel tank mounted on the wing to replace the drag of the underwing tank. Combined, they carry 3,500 Â £ Â £ additional fuel, while adding additional lift and expanding the combat radius by 260Ã, nmi with a small transonal acceleration penalty.
  • Chengdu J-10
The Wind Tunnel is tested by Chengdu.
  • BAC Strikemaster
Conformal fuel tanks mounted on wingtips.
  • WWII:
    • Supermarine Spitfire in the stomach.
    • Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the stomach.
    • Messerschmitt Bf 110D-1 in the stomach - dubbed Dackelbauch (belly dachshund).

Internal tank is distorted

The distorted internal tank is a fuel tank that creates a bulge from the fuselage or is mounted flat on the fuselage.

  • English Electric Lightning The conformal ventral store is used for small or large belly fuel tanks protruding from the underbody
  • Gloster Javelin is equipped with two flat-installed abdominal tanks with a capacity of 1,137 liters (300 US gallons). They are known as "chest tanks" or "Sabrinas"
  • Meteor Gloster
  • Shenyang J-6
  • Nanchang Q-5 "Fantan" firearm gun fuel tank extends below the fuselage profile
